You've probably all seen the Cornetto Trilogy—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The End of the World—named after the British ice cream treat that appears in each of those movies. And if you haven’t seen them, Shaun of the Dead is a particularly fun watch in these trying/uncertain/difficult times. But before Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost made a two series sitcom that is well worth the watch. Steeped in early 00’s pop culture, it’s about two underachieving twenty-somethings who are forced to pretend to be a couple to score an affordable apartment. Well-edited hijinks ensue.
You’ll find all of Edgar Wright’s hyper-kinetic snap cuts and whip pans and geek jokes, a wonderful cast (the wacky next-door neighbour Bryan is especially great), and the guy who did the voice of Darth Maul. What more could you want?
